Sorry for the long story, we usually never ask for help but feel free to cross post this one for us.
I picked up a Bull Terrier today and I suspected she might be a Mini. Sure enough I was in shock when I arrived tonight in Miami to have them bring me in the room with all the small dogs. Usually EVERY Bull Terrier goes to the West Wing of a shelter that really has tried hard to come back. But the west wing still makes me sob, there are many Bull type breeds there. They are illegal in Miami-Dade. This is the last stop for them, it really is honestly sad. I cannot think of how many dogs are lost there.
I went in (just in time tonight) traffic is terrible and it is 2 counties away. There she was; asleep then I saw how small she was, they have exact age of 2 years 6 months old. I do not want to even mention who could do such a thing?
I have had burned dogs before, but never a tar burn victim. I know a large number of medical people she will get care ASAP…. I am doing triage at the house tonight with the certified Surgical Tech. She is snoring farting up a storm in the office tonight LOL.
While we think ROADIE is going to be fine. We had her fully vetted 2 days ago. We do AVID, shots, operation, full meds; frontline… she is even spayed. Sadly she was with a demised small litter. Just the meds or the burn could have done it. Or they got mad at her because she did not produce? I will post photos of her when I can.
She will need time, effort and a little money to help he be placed. She is a sweetheart. I am the cry baby. The white was also a mini. He was adopted because he was perfect. We always offer the shelter the secondary option to mail our card to the adoptive parent fully autonomously to keep it out of the shelter system.
The little white male that got away from us was almost certainly the stud dog that was the pair to Roadie. I shared in a recent email that rescues will shop the shelters and only take perfect “looking” ones. They send in families from the street to adopt and charge X amount of dollars to transport. This is an unsettling practice. We cannot do anything about this. The people that do this have high numbers pulling at the shelters (end of story). Some shelters have too much policy some none?
Back to Roadie; I have to put her in quarantine for 2 weeks. She will be at Vets in the AM. She is fine for tonight. She will need ½ of her right side body hair shaved professionally while sedated to allow the burns to be medicated and evaluated.
Eve has been wonderful to us; she donated a lot of Medical services to us over the years. She adopted over 20 dogs from me from a hoarder and she fully many dogs for me and a few others for me at little or no cost. She vetted many Standard Bully’s for me this year ALONE some Mini. Like we said we have our Angels out there.
The State, City, County, Feds all want money from us every year this time of year. Can you imagine? We help them and they want money from a dry well? Geez… ease up H$U$ oops I mean Uncle Sam.
Even with EXCELLENT treatment, Roadie will need a few hundred dollars of medication and treatment, I have a full time medically certified that will donate administering whatever burn treatment the Dr’s prescribe tommorow. We already have a foster home all ready for her.
God has been good to to us with medical people and putting wonderful people like Judy and Cherie in our lives, many of the Clubs too! New York Rescue, Blue Ridge, Sheri… Thank you all. The only thing we need to do is break that great grant barrier and we will be fine. We currently rank number 3 on GOOGLE thank you Judy and Eve you did that! That is what gets us so many applications!
We are very rigourously sensible about treating a sick dog. She is so precious, as she snores and farts up my darn office. You either love Bullies or you do not.
I took one look at her she wagged her little tail I was in tears (yes again I admit I am a big baby) as usual and off she went on the hour and half ride back home with me.
Subsequently I can help these dogs come back to life like Ernie we had recently and even our friend Deuce. We usually place dogs within weeks he was almost 7 and that age group is very hard to place. Well the perfect family came along and a few weeks have gone by and they are all so happy we miss Deuce a lot, he is amazing FULL HUGE 78 pounder…. this is rescue. We welcome our new found foster homes, thank you for not being able to keep up with the web site.
We expect a 4 month full recovery of Roadie with of course some scaring. Her burns range from 2nd to 3rd degree I do not know the extent of the percentage yet. We have seen worse come back to life. Gives me goosebumps to think about with no sleep for me tonight, that’s fine. I had a good day.
Instant Karma’s gonna get me right?
